Our amazing and thoughtful Matt Rolfe recently took part in a project organised by the Birmingham Hippodrome called "Homecomings - Empire Soldiers" as part of the Remembrance Sunday.
Empire Soldiers is a breathtaking virtual reality installation telling the compelling stories of forgotten Caribbean & South Asian soldiers of World War One. Matt and 7 others volunteered to do 5 live 5-minute performances throughout the day.
Matt says “It allowed me to literally walk in their shoes and experience some form of what life was like for these men - particularly the hidden and often forgotten stories of soldiers from across the Empire.” The performance was very moving and positively received by the general public, it certainly sparked a lot of conversation, especially within those affected communities that would have had descendants fighting on behalf of the British and then continuing to fight for their rights post-war.
The Hippodrome received extremely positive feedback and so are looking at other "stunts" to be able to perform in the future which if any of Haig&Co feel compelled to volunteer, we’ll keep you posted.
Huge respect to Matt for his interest, efforts & participation. We're all very proud of him. See why we are so impressed with our very own hero.
